Last year, I wrote a post on ‘What to do with haters on your success journey?” I feel it’s an important post to refresh on again, this time around with a different angle. One thing I want you all to know is that people will be people, not everyone will like you, not everyone would be nice to you and it’s still something I’m getting used to and something I’ve gradually overcome-people-pleasing. The reality of the world is that we are all in a rat-race, a very selfish one; everybody is concerned about themselves, what can benefit them and what they can benefit from. As sad as this may sound, you cannot let it hold you back- people’s opinions.

Success takes a lot of courage. There will be lonely walks; there will be the haters, the doubters, it is a journey, a process, sometimes arduous but all molding you into the person you were meant to become. Nothing good in life comes easy and your situation won’t be different. Turn what seems like a disadvantage in your life to an advantage. “Oh she can’t do it!” “Oh, he’ll never make it, how can?” “She will never be successful!” As painful as these sayings are, let them motivate you to work harder. Let them be your why. The thing about ‘haters’ is that when they see you become successful, doing your own thing, living happily, they either come back around or stay away envious. So, are they worth your time, no! Young people, don’t let anything hold you back, don’t let people’s opinions of you pull you down or make you feel insecure. Summon courage; it’s something we do every day and that’s why morning rituals are so important. Waking up early, doing some self-development through books, videos, exercise, a good breakfast- anything to put you in good spirits and set you for the day.

These years are when you develop habits- good and bad and the habits you adopt will influence the kind of life you will have years from now. Adopt habits that will help you grow; grow into the person you were meant to be. So much potential lies in you, we have the world at our fingertips, technology has advanced like never before. There is no more excuse as to why you can’t make it. The truth is that if you want to have an excuse, there will be one. It could be your background, social class, race, mistakes, challenges, there’s always something but the good thing is that we have a choice to see good in every situation. In every negative situation, there is a positive angle to it. It’s our responsibility to look for it. Take advantage of the opportunities you have whether it be at school/uni/college/workplace. We all have 24hrs. Some people spend it productively while others leave it to waste. Enough with the excuses and the complaining. Do something with what you have. Start with the little you have and make it something big. Everything great started small and it’s important we take our small beginnings seriously.

Most times your breakthrough comes when you step outside your comfort zone, that’s where great seeds blossom. It’s scary, it’s uncomfortable but that’s what it takes. It takes you another level in your life, helps you develop the extraordinary discipline, and gives you confidence to take on new opportunities. You have one life, one chance to do so much, to dream big, live big, achieve greatness, become the ultimate best and help others. Every day you should be doing one of these, don’t just go through life, but instead grow through life. Each day is a learning experience, we fall, we get back up, we try new things, observe new things, meet new people, its part of the journey. It isn’t always easy but it’s worth it. Look at your mentors or the celebrities and successful people you admire, they didn’t get there being fearful or doing what was comfortable for them or by paying attention what people had to say. Many of them had it rough, but friends…it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. I had a rocky start but I can boldly proclaim, I’m a different person today. A new me and I’m still becoming…a work in progress and you all are a part of this journey; my work is to coach young people within the self-development niche. Some days are easy while some days are not but my purpose never wavers; my goal of inspiring, motivating and empowering millions of youths is anchored deep within and I’ve made up my mind, I’m going all the way. Giving up is not even in my dictionary and it shouldn’t be in yours either.

Young people hustle hard during these years. I’m a bold believer in dreaming big, setting no limits BUT in hustling hard. These years are the most amazing but so many young folks get carried away and lose focus of their vision. Stay true to yourself, stay true to your goal. You were born for greatness. You were made for this, don’t fall short.
