Ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship.” – Denzel Washington

Listen to the news, pick up the newspaper, scroll through your Twitter feed, I can guarantee you there is something to complain of. That is life and that is the job of the media- constantly bombarding you with lots of information which sometimes causes you to whine….but what separates great people from the mediocre is the fact that they are doers. “Oh…there’s going to be a recession,” “Oh…people are losing their jobs.” While 99% of people are complaining and worrying…the 1% are writing out their strategies to make the best of these times. They are being innovative, they are thinking of other ideas. Now you’re young and wondering…‘Well, how does this affect me?’ Well, it should. Greatness starts small. It’s the little things you do every day that builds you up to that level. It’s the mind-set you have, the way you approach life every day, your daily routine, your values, how well you take your academics/work/side-hustle seriously.

Many people today often look down on their humble beginnings. It might be your natural hair page on Instagram that you have deserted for months or your YouTube channel that you have abandoned or it might be simple as not taking school seriously, missing deadlines, not showing up etc. Whatever your reason might be, these are the little things that hinder one from stepping into greatness. “Oh, why did you stop this bakery business you were doing or why are you not posting again on your blog.” Well, your excuse might be, you are not getting enough viewers or followers on Instagram. In life, there will be room for excuses but it’s your choice to make no room for such- to take responsibility for your life and purpose on earth.

You are never going to have it easy in life…not at all. And if you’ve visited my platform to hear ‘sweet words,’ I’m afraid you’re in the wrong place. Read the above quote! – ‘ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship. Success does not come on a bed of roses, there is no such thing as overnight success. Friends, it takes hard work, smart work but most of all, consistency. Many of us start something, we start that project, we set those goals, create those resolutions but few months down the line, we neglect it because of one disappointment or the other and one wants to be successful? Ain’t gonna happen that way!

Over the last year and a half, I’ve faced a number of challenges with Motty Inspires and I will be doing a video soon to address some of them. Some days, I get discouraged, some days things don’t work out the way I want, some days I lose followers on my Twitter and Instagram Page but do I then give up or quit. Never. Quitting is not even in my dictionary- I don’t understand that word; well I choose not to understand it. I’ve had to summon courage inside of me- to think back to why I started and if you do not know your ‘why’, in hard times, it is easy to give up.

I’m currently reading “Start with your WHY: How great leaders inspire you to take action” by Simon Sinek, you can purchase the book here. All great leaders, great innovations we admire today- Apple, Samsung, TED; started with a WHY. The WHY is the ultimate thing, people connect with that purpose and that is the major reason why I hold on during difficult times is…because my mission is bigger than me. My purpose is bigger than me, it is bigger than any challenge that I will ever face i.e. to inspire, motivate and empower the next generation of leaders. And when I think of my mission, my end goal; it propels me to keep pushing forward, to keep striving for greatness, to not settle for less or remain in my comfort zone.

Friends, this journey is not easy. Nothing good in life comes easy. It takes perseverance, dedication, consistency to achieve your goals and that is the aim of this platform- to provide a space which inspires you to dream big, work hard to achieve those dreams and become the best version of yourself.

I am becoming…we all are and after we’ve become, there is still more to become. Success is a journey, not a destination. There isn’t that place where you reach and say ‘I’ve made it…I can rest.” There is always more to become, we are still learning and growing. So I want to encourage you all to keep striving, do away with the complaining. Look for the good in sad situations. Be a doer. Be a solution-finder! We’ve got the world at our fingertips people; there is no the time to waste, no time for mediocracy, no time for playing small. Let us push hard each day! Stay focused and only the best to come!
