2017 is almost here, just a few days away and it’s important we reflect on this past year and see what it has brought and what we would like to carry on to the following year. I actually got this idea from my fellow blogger Amanda Cross of Happy Arkansan, she set out a challenge of taking a sheet of paper with a list of the 12 months and next to it, writing the most interesting thing that happened in that month.
I felt this was ‘reflection’ was an important thing to do hence I thought I would do it in this blog post. Like I mentioned in the previous blog post, 2016 has been a life-changing year for me, with all its challenges, it opened my eyes to the reality of life, its ups and downs. I’ve learnt a lot; at the same time it has brought numerous blessings, this blog being one of them.
Here we go!
January – Birth of Motty Inspires ( aim of inspiring, motivating and empowering young people to dream big, work hard towards achieving those goals and live life with passion and purpose. It’s the little space on the Internet where all your dreams can come true.)
February- More work on Motty Inspires. Editing, getting myself acquainted with how it works and what works best.
March- Easter holiday.
April- Got accepted into my chosen university, currently studying Law in the UK.
May- Spent this month solely on self-development materials through books, podcasts, watching commencement speeches etc.
June- Birthday girl!
July– Started my French tutorials.
August- Holiday abroad and work on my blog. Reunion with high school friends. Attended a church youth camp!
September– Finally moved my blog from Blogger to WordPress and started uni!
October- Built an amazing community on Instagram. Make sure you are following; you don’t want to miss out.
November– Enjoyed giving presentations and debating in my uni tutorials as it boosted my confidence and belief in myself.
December- Reunited with family and friends, more work on Moty Inspires and the excitement of what the New Year holds.
I would love you all to carry out this challenge and with this, you’ll find that spirit of gratitude is released, you’re thankful for all that has come, good and bad. I don’t know what 2016 has been for you and I don’t know what this coming year holds but we can do our best with faith and hard-work, we can make this next year an amazing one. Remember if you fail to prepare, you’re preparing to fail. Don’t wait till New Year’s to plan out this next year, at least you should know your short term goals and what steps you are going to take.
January is coming by quick and that means a new semester, back to work and the hustle and bustle of life. Are you ready? You’ve got to do your own part. Let 2017 be a year where you take charge of your life and accept responsibilities instead of shifting the blame. Take charge! You have the power, it’s a choice. Each day we live is filled with decisions and the choices we make determine the outcome of our life. Look through 2016, what mistakes did you make? How can you prevent them from reoccurring? How can you be a better ‘you’ it’s a new semester for my high school and college friends, how can you improve on your last grade? There’s always room for improvement. We’re all learning, we stumble and we get up. The most important thing is that you’re rising.
I’m very optimistic about this year although there is still so much uncertainty because 2017 will have its own set of challenges but you’ve got to have faith, courage and determination to press on amidst all of them. Let 2017 be a year of increase in every area of your life. Take charge. Don’t take NO for an answer. You might be complaining about your losses and disappointments this year while someone else has accepted them and has come up with solutions. Don’t think of the disappointment, think of the solution. In the midst of all that’s going on the world, don’t lose hope. Be a beacon of light wherever you are, at school, college, work, be the inspiration someone needs.
Wishing you all the very best in this coming year. Thanks to all who have joined the awesome community and has read my posts, one thing I can say is that ‘your future is so bright, it burns my eyes.’ If you like this post, make sure you follow on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
