Hey Girl Bosses Hey!

And if you’re a gent, welcome! A large part of my audience are females so I feel it’s important to put out content that will also empower my supportive audience out there. I also received surprisingly a lot of engagement on the blog post: 10 Practical Tips to becoming a Girl Boss and my Instagram Page. Nonetheless, the tips that will be mentioned can be generally applied to help you overcome your fears and do the things you’ve always dreamed of.

Also, I put out a Twitter poll asking my audience what post they would like to see this week and the three options were: How to Overcome your fears, 10 Inspiring Podcasts for Ambitious Millennials and Must read self-help books for millennials. And ‘How To Overcome your fears’ got the highest vote, hence the reason for today’s post. So, going forward, I will be conducting Twitter polls often to find out the content you all would like to see on the blog. If you have any suggestions or feedback at the moment, feel free to drop them down in the comment section below.

I’m inadequate…

I’m not good enough…

Who will listen to me?…

Who will buy my products?

Who will read my articles?

I’m still young…

I’m too old….

Sounds familiar? These are the lies we tell ourselves constantly each day? Wait, who told you you are not beautiful? Who told you, you can’t make it in life? Who?

These are the fears and the barriers to success we are going to look at in this post.

First, let’s get started with this amazing YouTube clip

So how can you overcome your fear?

1. Recognise that fear doesn’t go away: First things first. There is nothing wrong with being fearful or afraid of certain things in life. It is normal. The celebrities, mentors and successful icons you look up to feel fearful many a times, but the difference is that they don’t choose to let the fear subject them instead they learn to attack fear and rise above it.The truth is that you can’t really get rid of fear, you can only overcome it gradually and make it your fuel to success. I wrote a post on this here.

I’m currently reading ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’ by Susan Jeffers and she mentioned something important which resonated with me and that was “the fear will never go away as I continue to grow.” This is so true. As you begin to step outside your comfort zone gradually for instance starting your side-hustle/business, pitching to your first client, doing public speaking, signing up to a fitness program…as you begin to get handed your bigger assignments, the fear will continue to grow.

And so what we have to do is acknowledge that this fears exist, acknowledge that you have the fear of public speaking or the fear of starting your own business, acknowledge it but at the end of the day, you have a choice not to accommodate these fears. Instead, use your fear as a channel to grow and step into your greater blessings.

Serena Williams said in her documentary that ‘pressure is a privilege.’ Some people don’t get the opportunities to feel the pressure of doing the thing they were called to do. So instead of making excuses day after day on why you can’t achieve your goals, why don’t you like Lisa Nichols says and I repeat ‘Hold fear in one hand and passion and faith in another hand and just JUMP‘.

Take that leap of faith!

2. The initial fear of starting…does not go away until you DO: You want to overcome your fear of public speaking? Find opportunities to take the stage, find opportunities to present. The only way to overcome your fear is to DO THE THING you are afraid of.

What’s the worst that can happen? You fail? Okay. You get laughed at? Okay. You get the ‘I told you so’s? Okay.

Evaluate the worst that could happen. You forget your lines when presenting? Okay. If you actually think about it, it’s really not that bad.

Another thing to realise is that failures are actually stepping stones to success. When you begin to see failure as a teacher and not an enemy, you become limitless. You then become fearless. The enemy you should be afraid of is procrastination, making excuses day after day on why you cannot follow your dreams or achieve the  goals you have set for this month.

Girl Bosses, let 2018 be different. Let’s be intentional in 2018. Let’s set goals and stick to them. Let’s think straight this year!

Time waits for no one. That woman you want to be five years from now or that man you want to be, the life you want to live, the experiences you want to have, the goals you want to accomplish is relying on the decisions you make today.

Am I going to let my fears rule me or am I going to channels my fears into actually getting some work done and taking the first step?

The world is waiting for no one. Young people, I always say we are the future! We live in a fast paced world. Technology is advancing, it’s crazy! Science is advancing, it’s mind blowing! This is not the time to be left behind, going through the motions of life without purpose or creating no value.

Look for ways to grow! Overcoming your fears is a daily process. It involves taking baby steps- making an intentional decision to take one step outside your comfort zone daily.

3. Realise that everything you need to conquer and excel lies in you: Look inside. There is so much untapped potential hidden inside of you.

Everything you need to achieve your purpose is inside of you, that includes the wisdom, strength, resilience you will need on this journey. You have it! God did not make a mistake when He created you. He hands you the big assignments of life because you can overcome it. He puts opportunities your way because you were meant to achieve amazing things.

Stop limiting yourself people. I believe in a generation of young people who are ready to break barriers and pull down every limitation…

Believe in you…, you will see this often on my blog. I can put out amazing and empowering content on the blog, but if you do not believe in your superpower, then you can’t become the truest expression of yourself.

Yes, you might have one breakthrough or the other but you won’t be able to achieve your fullest potential.

So Girl Bosses, It’s a Monday, new day, new week and a new year! Let’s feel the fear and DO IT ANYWAYS

I believe in you..
