One of the many successful people I admire is Lisa Nichols. I was recently listening to her talk at the Mind Valley Academy on How to turn your fear into fuel – it was amazing and so many life lessons were learnt. My last post on my blog looked at one of the hindrances that deter people from going after their dreams. If you missed it, make sure you check it out here. This week, we will be looking at another stumbling block on your journey to success and that’s FEAR. So many young people are a victim of this four letter word, we hate it but yet we still succumb to it. Lisa Nichols mentioned something in the talk that ministered to me and that is “Fear is not your enemy, fear is your friend.” It depends on what you’ve allowed this four-letter word to do in your life. You either give it power or you strip it of its power. Which are you doing?

Nichols highlighted how so many people today have big dreams, big goals with the capabilities to achieve them but due to fear, they hold back. Fear cripples you, It cripples your destiny. Every single person was born for greatness, but what does fear do, it stifles your progress. Young people awaken! Awaken to the fact that you’ve got this one life and you’ve got to live it to the fullest! Awaken to the fact that you’re on earth for a purpose! Let fear be your fuel. What we don’t realize is that fear is present to propel you to work harder, nothing good in life comes easy and if you’re waiting for fear to disappear, you’re going to be waiting a long time. In life, you’ve got to get comfortable doing the uncomfortable things. Great things lie outside your comfort zone and each day of your life, you should be challenging yourself. Each day is another learning experience, another opportunity to grow and become the best version of yourself and that is the very aim of this platform- to re-echo again and again that you were not born to be mediocre, you choose mediocrity. Everything you’re experiencing today- you chose it! As brash as this may sound, it’s the truth and if there’s one thing people, in general, need to learn, is to take responsibility for their lives. Own it! In life, you will make mistakes but be willing to accept them and move on, not throw the blame on someone or something.

You are the creator of your own destiny. No one can write your story and each day of your life, you have written a page of that story. Your life can be compared to a book. Each day has its own page, what story are you writing? What kind of life are you living? Are you challenging yourself each day, living life to its fullest or settling for less than you are. Lisa says “Fear is just like any other emotion, like love, you just give it more power.” You can never get rid of fear, it will always be in the car but you have the choice to sit in the driving seat and not let it control your life. Young people, we are the future! Change doesn’t come by playing little. It comes by speaking out, standing up for what you believe, doing your part, going against the norm.

Some of the fears we encounter on our journey to success is the fear of failure, fear of what other people will think, and it is all to hinder your destiny. The good thing is that you have a choice. You have the power to decide what influence fear has over you. You can let it be your fuel to greatness or your hindrance.

I’m here to let you all know that if your dreams don’t make you afraid, they’re not big enough. Success lies outside your comfort zone. Comfort brings complacency, it breeds mediocrity. Why settle for less? So, dream BIG, hustle HARDER and let no one tell you can’t do it, or you can’t make it. Don’t entertain such negativity. Believe in yourself. Wake up each day knowing you’ve got this. You were made to last. There’s never going to be a perfect time to go for your dreams or take that first step, I tell myself this each day. Fear will always be present but as Lisa Nichols says “Hold fear in one hand and PASSION in another hand and just LEAP!”
