As this year draws to a close, it’s important we reflect on this past year, its blessings and its challenges. Each year, we encounter experiences that mould us, that transform us into who we are meant to be. If you’re not learning, you’re not growing. There should be growth in your life each day, yes we make mistakes but we must be learning from them, we should be improving. I like this season of the year right up from the Thanksgiving holiday to Christmas and then to New Year’s, it has a central theme of reflection and gratitude and this is the time where we have to look back over the course of the year i.e. where you went wrong, where you went right, the good and bad choices you made, how you can prevent those mistakes from reoccurring etc.
It’s common for us to make New Year’s just a ritual, where we’re grateful for another year however you’re still the same person, nothing has changed and no improvement has been made. Why can’t this year be different? As much as this holiday is time with family and friends, laughter and excitement, let’s not lose the true meaning of New Year and what it symbolises.
So, I think it’s important to ask yourself “How has 2016 changed me?” “What have I learnt?” “What lessons can I carry into the next year?” These are the questions you should ask yourself. Take time this holiday to mediate and reflect on this past year and what it has meant for you. Don’t let 2016 just be another year that has passed by, look back and see what you can take. Take time out to show gratitude and appreciation for every blessing and every obstacle because these things happen for a purpose. Everything in your life is happening and has happened for a purpose.
Personally, this year has been a life-changing one. I’ve encountered experiences that have transformed me and I can see the changes and family and friends can testify to this. I dedicated this year to personal -development with books, videos featuring successful people and how they think and live their lives , podcasts, TED talks, conversations with people, I have sought out ways to grow and improve myself and along this journey I have stumbled across my passion. There has been tremendous growth in every area of my life i.e. spiritually, academically, mentally, financially. I wanted a new me and I am on becoming; on becoming….the woman God destined me to be. 2016 brought the birth of Moty Inspires which is growing to an amazing community. Make sure you are following our Instagram Page and Twitter for post updates, new projects on the blog, motivational quotes, How to’s and lots more. I’ve met so many amazing people over the course of this year whether it was online or in person; blogging has been an amazing and rewarding experience. Doing what you love is truly fulfilling, though you encounter challenges, when you have that clarity, a sense of purpose knowing you’re doing what you were born to do, it strengthens you and propels you to keep pushing forward. That is the way life is in general, it is one thing after the other and as you get older, things won’t get easier, these years are the easiest. As you get older, things will get harder, there will be more responsibilities and pressure from all sides and it’s in this time you’ve got to stay true to yourself and what you believe in.
Year after year, your experiences are preparing you for all that lies ahead so don’t let 2017 be different. Look through this year and think of how you’ve grown. Share your thoughts with me in the comment section or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org. How has this year changed you?
